Mark Sultan Montreal based entertainer Mark Sultan, best known for his involvement with The King Khan & BBQ Show and The Almighty Defenders, releases his fourth solo album $ today (April 13th) in Canada on Last Gang Records.

By no means an easy listening album, $ pays homage to rock and roll through the ages, with influences from Frank Zappa, The Ramones, JAMC, and The Zombies. Known for his larger-than-life stage performance, Sultan leads an auditory circus of grungy whirring and sonic guitar overdubbing as additional voices of the album (second to Mark’s rock perfect vocal performance).

After a minute or so of concern that my speakers were blown and receiving only a portion of the audio information, I was settled by establishing it was the recording. The album starts with a 6-minute epic intro of inspired sonic feedback and noise. Perfect in headphones; each song is a treasure trove of trinkets for the ear.

The music could be playing during a make-out scene in some 1950′s teenager’s alternate reality. Falsetto harmonies bleed your heart and the electrified guitar tone that would make any parent fearful for their sons and daughters.
